Effective October 31, 2026
The short version
- We collect what we need to run your account and the game.
- We don't sell your data, and the site has no ads or tracking cookies.
- Optional emails stay off unless you turn them on.
- Our moderators and admins can't see your email address in their tools.
- You can ask us for a copy of your data, or to delete it.
1. Who we are
Cyberscape is made by xTear Studios. This policy covers the game, this website and our other services, and it's part of our Terms of Service.
2. What we collect
- Your account: your username, email address and the date you joined. Your password is stored in hashed form by our sign-in provider, and we never keep it ourselves.
- Your game data: your combat record, skills, inventory and in-game mail.
- What you post: forum posts, comments, reactions and uploaded images.
- Your settings and notifications: the choices you make on your account page and the notifications we show you.
- Technical details: our hosting services may process your IP address and basic details of each request, so that they can deliver pages, connect you to game servers and keep the service secure.
- Moderation records: any action staff take on your account, including who took it and why.
We don't take payments yet. When the store opens, a payment provider will handle your card details and we'll update this policy first.
3. How we use it
- To run your account and the game, and to show your progress.
- To keep the game fair and the community safe, including finding cheating and abuse.
- To secure your account and send you security messages.
- To answer you when you contact us.
- To send you the optional emails you've chosen.
We do this because it's needed to provide the service you signed up for, because we have a real interest in keeping the game safe and working, or because you opted in.
4. How we protect your data and your experience
- Encrypted connections: the site and our services use HTTPS.
- Private sign-in: the cookie that keeps you signed in can't be read by scripts on the page.
- Limited staff access: staff tools show only what's needed to moderate, and never your email address.
- Accountable staff: staff actions are logged with who took them and why.
- A safer community: forum posts, replies and comments pass through a language filter, for staff as well. Uploaded images are checked automatically for explicit content before they appear.
No online service can promise perfect security. If a breach puts your data at risk, we'll tell you what happened and what to do, as the law requires.
5. Your choices
Security emails, such as verification and password codes, always send, because they protect your account. Everything else is your choice and stays off until you turn it on in your email preferences:
- Big announcements
- Alpha test invites
- Comment and forum replies
- Store offers
You can turn these off again at any time. Email isn't switched on yet, so we're saving your choices until it is.
Your public profile is yours to control too. Your combat record and skills are public on the Stats page and through the Cyberscape API until you turn them off, and your inventory stays private unless you turn it on. You'll find these under what others can see.
6. What others can see
- Other players: your username and rank, anything you post, and the public profile data you've left on.
- Staff: your username, roles, game data and moderation history, but not your email address.
- Service providers: Amazon Web Services hosts the site and game backend, handles sign-in and screens uploaded images. Google Fonts supplies the site's fonts, so Google receives your IP address when a page loads them. Providers only handle data so that we can run the service.
- Legal requests: we may share data when the law requires it, or to protect players or the service.
7. Cookies and browser storage
We use two cookies: cysc_session keeps you signed in, and cysc_user shows your name across our sites. Your browser also remembers a few conveniences, like how many news posts to show per page, which posts you've already viewed and any unsent post drafts. None of this is used for advertising or analytics.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is active. When an account is deleted, its login, email address and player profile are removed straight away.
- Your forum posts and comments stay up under your username unless you ask us to remove them.
- Game records and site settings can remain, no longer connected to a login, until we clear them. Ask us and we will.
- We keep moderation records, including the username and the reason for the deletion, so that we can review what happened and enforce our rules.
9. Your rights
You can see and update your details on your account page. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop using it for something optional. Depending on where you live, including the EU, the UK and California, you may have further legal rights, and you can complain to your local data protection authority. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
10. Children
You must be at least 13 to create an account. If we learn that an account belongs to someone younger, we'll delete it. If you're a parent or guardian and think this has happened, contact us.
11. Where your data is stored
Your data is stored in the United States. If you play from somewhere else, it travels there to run the service.
12. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date. We won't start using your data in a way that needs your consent until you've given it.
13. Contact
For privacy questions and data requests, reach us on our Discord. We'll confirm the account is yours before we share or delete anything. Don't post your email address or other private details in public channels, and never send us your password.
